Heewoong Jin

Heewoong Jin (né en 1985 en Corée) est un artiste interdisciplinaire établi à Tiohtià:ke/Mooniyang/Montréal. Sa pratique explore la façon dont des matériaux négligés et des infrastructures quotidiennes révèlent les systèmes esthétiques, économiques et sociaux qui façonnent la vie. Par des tensions subtiles entre ordre et désordre, ses installations activent les histoires discrètes inscrites dans des objets trouvés et industriels.

Son travail récent porte sur la migration et le regard colonial presque invisible qui traverse la langue, les noms et l’adaptation. L’expérience répétée d’entendre Heewoong devenir Hugh à Toronto ou Guillaume à Montréal a suscité une réflexion sur les noms comme outils d’intégration dans les contextes occidentaux. Par l’installation, la vidéo et l’écriture, il explore les négociations entre visibilité et assimilation, aisance et déformation, appartenance et étrangeté.

Il détient un baccalauréat en peinture et dessin de Cheongju University (2011) et une maîtrise en sculpture et céramique de Concordia University (2025). Ses œuvres ont été présentées à Dazibao, à la Leonard & Bina Ellen Art Gallery, au Centre MAI, à la Maison de la culture Janine-Sutto, à Peripheral Hours, à la Biennale d’artisanat de Cheongju et au Real DMZ Project.
